A good friend and I were just lying back, listening to music and just having a good time. The weather was lovely, and I must say, this was the first time ever that the weather actually wasn't too cold or too warm at a swimming carnival, which was a surprise to all of us. Now, I'm one of those people who can ponder all afternoon on one question because the world never fails to fascinate me.
Anyway, my friend asked me a question. She asked:
"Hey, do you prefer the clouds or the sky?"
"What do you mean?""If you had to choose between the clouds or the sky, which would you prefer?"
And surprisingly, it didn't take me long to reach an answer.
"Well, it wouldn't much of a sky without clouds, and clouds wouldn't be clouds without the sky," I said.
My answer actually surprised me a little. I never really thought about this, and it really got me thinking. There are so many things in this world that are inseparable. Peanut butter and jelly. Ham and eggs. Hot chocolate and marshmallows. (Hm, why am I only pointing out food?) And then there's the inseparability of love between a mother and her child.
When I think about my mum and I, I think about everything. I think about our afternoons sitting on the couch, reading a book, sharing a hot cup of tea together. I think about our fun little teasing arguments that we have, and smile at the thought of that. I think about our shopping together on Saturday mornings. I think about our car rides together, listening to the music and the conversations we've had in the car. I think about the little time that we have together after her work. We might watch a bit of television, or talk, or we'd be doing completely different things, but are still in each other's company.
Writing this, I've just come to realisation of how much I enjoy and love spending time with my mum. She's an incredible mother to me, and I'm incredibly fortunate to have her in my life. There are many important things in life, and my mother is one of them. The thing is, we may argue and we have our differences, but we've always remained true to each other. Mum, if you're reading this, thank you. Thank you for being such a great mother to me. Thank you for letting me be me and always being supportive of me.
